What is the difference between the Shakes and the Daily Gut Health Boosts?
Both the Daily Gut Health Boost and our Gut Health Shakes contain fibre and probiotics.
The Boosts have PHGG prebiotic fibre and the probiotic Bacillius coagulans MTCC 5856. They are flavoured naturally with real fruit powders. Simply stir in water for a delicious gut health shot.
Our gut health shakes have a special blend of fibres, not just PHGG. They also have high quality, gut-friendly protein and ingredients like coconut milk powder and lucuma to make them more balanced and substantial.
This means the shakes are great as the base of a low-FODMAP meal - add milk and even a little low FODMAP fruit for a fabulous, filling smoothie for breakfast or lunch.
What about the Hot Chocolates?
These also have gut boosting PHGG prebiotic fibre and the probiotic Bacillius coagulans MTCC 5856. They are flavoured with high quality cocoa and real chocolate drops or real raspberry powder.
How do I prepare my Daily Gut Health Boost?
Simply stir 10g (2 dessert spoons) of Daily Gut Health Boost powder into 125 ml (½ a cup) of chilled water.
It’s ok to leave it for a couple of hours in the fridge if you wish, but re-stir before drinking.
How do I prepare my Gut-friendly Hot Chocolate?
Add 16g (1 ½ tbp) to a mug. Add boiling water (or lactose-free milk) and stir. Top up with lactose-free milk.
The Raspberry option can also by whisked in cold milk for a delicious, sophisticated milk shake.
What’s great about PHGG?
We love PHGG (partially hydrolysed guar gum), both for its gut health benefits and the way it behaves when dissolved in water.
We conducted a systematic review of the medical literature about PHGG. Trials have shown it has benefits for people suffering from a wide range of gut conditions, from babies with diarrhoea through to elderly people suffering from chronic constipation. It is particularly helpful for people suffering from IBS.
It helps food move through the gut at just the right pace, and promotes regularity without causing bloating.
It is a prebiotic fibre and promotes digestive balance. It increases Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli levels.
PHGG fermentation by the microbiome results in short chain fatty acids such as butyrate, which provide energy for the digestive tract.
PHGG works beautifully in our drinks because it dissolves easily in water, and doesn’t have any flavour.
Why Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856?
Similarly, there is a wealth of clinical evidence backing the gut health benefits of the probiotic Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856.
It contributes live beneficial bacteria and supports the health and diversity of the gut microbiome.

Is Superflora suitable for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)?
Ugh! Sorry to hear you have IBS too. It can be a real pain. After 5 years of clinical research in gut health at The University of Western Australia, we understand that not every case of IBS is the same. In fact, despite our fancy science qualifications, fodmap training and PhDs - you are the expert on your own gut, so always proceed with caution! We’ve selected low fodmap ingredients (p.s. if you’re new to fodmaps, you should watch our explanatory video), a clinically validated probiotic (find out more about the benefits of LactoSpore® Bacillus coagulans, MTCC 5856 for IBS and general health) and a custom fibre-blend in the shakes (psyllium husks, partially hydrolysed guar gum (PHGG), chia seeds and linseeds), and PHGG in the Boosts and Hot Chocolates.
Are they low FODMAP?
All of our products have been tested and certified low FODMAP by Monash University. You can enjoy them with confidence as part of a low FODMAP diet to reduce IBS symptoms..
What type of fibre is in the Shakes?
The fibre mix is designed to be suitable for people with both the constipation and diarrhoea predominant types of IBS.
It’s normal for there to be an adjustment period when you start increasing the amount of fibre in your diet. Make sure to drink plenty of water. And always talk with your GP about any changes in your bowel movements that are causing you concern.
How often should I have Superflora?
Daily. We recommend having Superflora daily to gain the benefits of the fibre and probiotics.
Consistency pays off. While we’d love to spruik instant impact, studies have shown that it can take a few weeks for the full benefits of fibre and Bacillius coagulans MTCC 5856 to kick in for you and your microbiome.
If you aren’t used to fibre, you may wish to start with a half serve for the first week and then increase to the full 10g of Boost or full Shake..
It’s also a good idea to increase your water intake whenever you increase your fibre.
How should I prepare my shake? (milk or water) how much do I add?
For best results, blend 50g of Superflora with 250ml of chilled low fodmap milk or water and drink immediately. You can add a low fodmap serving of fruit (⅓ ripe banana, 5 raspberries or ½ cup blueberries) for a delicious smoothie. Depending on the milk you use, you may need to play around with the quantity to achieve the desired consistency. If you don’t have scales, 50g of Shake powder is around a heaped ⅓ of a cup.
Can I add the Boost to the shakes?
No, we don’t recommend adding the Daily Gut Health Boost to our Gut Health Shakes. It will make the shakes too thick.
You could have the Daily Gut Health Boost before breakfast and then a shake at lunch time. But if you’re taking both, make sure you build up gradually if you’re not used to this amount of fibre.
What kind of protein is in the shakes?
The French Bean Vanilla. Aussie Summer Strawberry and Rich Cocoa Chocolate Shakes contain Australian Whey Protein Isolate (WPI).
WPI is easily digested and absorbed. It is rich in branched chain amino acids including leucine, which are excellent for building and maintaining muscles.
WPI is very low in lactose, so suitable for people with sensitive tummies.
Our two plant-based shakes contain a blend of golden hemp protein, brown rice protein and pea protein isolate. This low FODMAP blend provides excellent coverage of all nine essential amino acids, plus good flavour and texture. They are an excellent source of plant-based protein that won’t cause bloating.
Do they contain artificial sweeteners?
No, no, no! Many artificial sweeteners, especially those containing polyols, sorbitol and mannitol can trigger IBS symptoms causing cramping, bloating, flatulence and diarrhea. So we’ve avoided all the nasties. Our Shakes and Boosts are sweetened naturally by a little maple syrup sugar and the fruit. The Hot Chocolates are sweetened with a little raw cane sugar.
If you are worried about sugar intake, remember our Shakes, Boosts and Hot Chocolates contain soluble fibre that reduces blood sugar spikes.
Are they suitable for vegans?
The Daily Gut Health Boosts are suitable for vegans, along with our Plant-based Superflora Gut Health Shakes.
The WPI-based shakes and the Hot Chocolates are not vegan.
Are they gluten-free?
Yes., our full range is gluten-free. They have all been tested by a WA-based NATA accredited lab so you can be confident that they have no detectable gluten
Are Superflora Shakes and Boosts suitable for Crohn’s and Colitis?
Our Shakes and Boosts are a great choice for when you are in remission. A low FODMAP diet can improve the IBS symptoms commonly experienced by people with Crohn’s or colitis.. Our shakes are a convenient low FODMAP meal or snack that you can just grab as you head out the door.
However, the fibre in our products means that they aren’t suitable if you have a flare/active inflammation and have been recommended to stick to a low residue or low-fibre diet.

How about diverticulis?
Similarly, if you have diverticulitis, consuming more fibre softens the stool and helps prevent constipation. It also can help decrease pressure in the colon and help prevent flare-ups of diverticulitis. However, during a flare-up you will need to stick to a low fibre diet.
What about after bowel surgery?
Again, follow your doctor’s advice and wait until your gut is fully healed before adding fibre rich foods like our Shakes to your diet.
